8.1.3 server
Hi Ken,
I have installed 8.1.3 on 3* 2012R2 servers without any issues (so far) connecting to MS-SQL.
I have also always installed to a separate drive (e:) and have found all the recent versions of omnis place half the files in the user appdata directory, I have just “cut and pasted” these files into my chosen installation directory on e: and all worked fine (I agree it is stupid that you have to do this).
I run it as a service, but always remove the default installed “omnis” installed service as I often have both “server” and “runtime” instances running on the same box (the runtime acting as a batch processor for longer reports and timed requests), I have not noticed any times when it has not installed the default service (in fact even when I un-check the box, it still does install the service, I would rather it did not bother in the first place).
Kind regards
Philip

Subject: 8.1.3 server
I have noticed some differences in installing the 8.1.3 server on windows.
We have been using the 6.1.3 server install and now are deploying the 8.1.3. Here are some difference.
Our installing for both 6 and 8 was to install in a folder outside of the programs file and in fact on a secondary local drive.
8.1.3 places files in the user appdata folder as if it was a runtime not a server. This does not make sense given the server is not associated with and may not run under the user the actually does the install.
8.1.3 is sporadic in installing the service for windows.
8.1.3 has issues connecting the our postgresql database. If we copy the libpq.dll from an 6.1 it seems to work. This does not make sense as the version of the libpq.dll is the same.
I have one server where it does not manage the mscvr120.dll and thus an error on launch.
Conclusion is the attempting to use the 8.1.3 for a server on windows is difficult to impossible.
Anyone using 8.1.3 as server on windows? If so is your experience better than ours?
