Frontbase connection
Hello Lester,
We use Frontbase here, and run it on Mac and Windows machines. You are right about the licence, there is no requirement for one any more, all free.
If you use either of the FrontBase Manager apps, one Mac one and a JS version, you can check to see if FB is running on that machine. But if you have reinstalled FB and the DB, then you know about FB Manager, and that it must be running on that IP address.
So if you can use FB Manager to connect to the DB, then all must be good. There is a control port, 20200 (can’t remember the exact number) for the FB connection, and then an individual port for each DB running on that machine. You can set this number.
So check FW rules everywhere.
Contact me off list for further help if you need it.

FrontBase is on a server running Windows NT 2008. The network was changed earlier this year due to some internal business changes and the IP address was changed. I changed the login accordingly for all the machines on the intranet running the application and things went fine for a few months. Then one day no one could connect. The error message is “FBExec not found on Host”. I am running O$ 6.02 and FB 5. I assumed based on the documentation that it was a license issue as the previous license was based on the IP address but even with a new license I still could not make a connection. I uninstalled FrontBase saving my database files and reinstalled it to no avail. I contacted FrontBase and they said that from version 5 on it doesn’t need or even look for a license (which is why the license area is blank). Does anyone out there use FrontBase and have any idea what could have happened or what I could do to fix this problem? I have spent hours and tried everything I could do and I can not get it to connect to even a simple one table database. I tried installing FB 8 as well and still can’t connect. Any help would be appreciated.
