Logon, the Bigger Picture, Questions
I’m up to dealing with Logon in terms of real user identities. I have a range of questions.
How do you logon to the database with the same username and password as you use in your program for users? $logon() either creates a session or optionally a session pool. If each user creates a session pool, isn’t that a burden? Or do session pools get mixed together on the server?
I have yet to look into it with the documentation, but I imagine Postgres and others have a password/user system. I need to tap into that and want to use the same identities within my program.
How do you tell the startup procedure which IP address to connect to? An INI file in the directory that you import? Store it in Omnis as say a method name in Startup?
Can you logon to the database without doing $logon() or do you need to do it through that to create some connection?
Separately, how many types of servers does Omnis sell? A read through the web documentation didn’t make it clear. The app itself is a server, it becomes a bigger server if you pay more and get a different serial number ? Is there more than the JS App server. Is there an older app server they still sell? I wrote to sales, got an answer, but then my motherboard died and that email is locked away until laptop repaired. He didn’t answer very clearly, so I’m asking you $all. One of the servers he said was $16K ! Could you include the rough prices on your delineation? I’m wondering “What servers Omnis sells, what they do roughly, and their price roughly”?
Thanks, all the best,
